Professor Liu is a secondary grade chief physician in the Department of Gastroenterology and master supervisor in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University. He served as the vice director of the Department of Internal Medicine and Infection at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University, a part from the General Internal Medicine and Digestive Department in the Eastern branch of the hospital. He is a member of the World Congress of Gastroenterology, hepatobiliary division of the gastroenterology branch of Chinese Medical Association. In addition, he is the deputy leader of the cirrhosis group and vice chairman of hepatology branch of Guangdong Medical Association, as well as a member of infectious disease society of Guangdong medical association and the medical advisory committee of Shenzhen social insurance and an expert in the evaluation of health human recourse in National Health Association. He is an editorial board member of Chinese Journal of Multiple Organ Disease in the Elderly and Journal of Clinical Hepatology. Prof. Liu has hosted key research projects in Guangdong province and has participated in many projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and Guangdong Natural Science Foundation. He has published more than 60 articles, reviewed more than 10 articles, and participated in the preparation of more than 10 monographs, and is the deputy editor of the medical symptom differential diagnosis, which is composed of more than 1 million words and is  the editor of several other monographs.

He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment to the chronic liver disease, peptic ulcer, functional gastrointestinal disorders and inflammatory bowel disease.
